What is Ambulatory BP Monitoring?

Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring is measuring your blood pressure as your move around with your daily routine activities. It is measured by a small digitalblood pressure monitoring machine attached to a belt around your body. This is connected to a cuff around your upper arm.

It is so small that you can go about your daily activities without realising the machine is working. It can also be comfortably worn when you go to sleep.

Why do I need a 24 hour monitor for my blood pressure?

  • It is better for your doctor to know how your blood pressure fluctuates throughout the day and prescribe the most suited medications.
  • It determines if you have a white coat hypertension.
  • It determines at what time of the day is your BP high or low.
  • It determines if you have high blood pressure throughout the day or night.
