I have always been sceptical about generic drugs. I knew of anecdotal reports of the abysmal conditions under which generics are manufactured. But this article is an eye opener- a systematic inspection of Indian generic manufacturer units over about 27 months by a person with integrity, from the FDA, is an exercise in disillusionment to say the least. We talk about technology, science and innovation in India, but where is the integrity? Jana Aushadhi and all of that is fine, but not at the cost of quality. As doctors, we are taught “primum non nocere” - first, do no harm.
